January 19, 2021 Message

Dear Members and Friends,

I was not old enough to understand what it meant in 1963 when doctors finally realized that Rheumatic Fever was caused by a strep infection, and that penicillin could control strep. (I just remember taking penicillin daily until I was 25.) After a year in the hospital at the age of 7, I did not understand why, but I was so very glad and happy when they told me I was better and that I could go home! To be able to go outside and play with friends, to go to school, to be with my family, to get back to a “normal life” …I remember the feeling that it was finally over… so once again, I am so joy-filled and feel a deep sense of gratitude to God who gives us the gift of intellect and science, the gift of doctors and nurses who work to help us be free of disease. Why? Soon, I will get my 2nd shot of the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19. The feeling of relief and joy is similar, but it's not quite the end of the Pandemic or a return to “normal life”. We will still have to take precautions and we may have to get additional booster shots for new strains of the virus… but maybe, soon, we shall be free of the fear, anxiety, and danger posed by our current situation. Once again, we should be filled with gratitude. TBTG! (Thanks Be To God).

Ready to get the vaccine? Go to covidvaccine.nj.gov and register to receive the vaccine when it becomes available for you. We will probably be able to get it at the CVS or perhaps at the Atlantic City Convention Center. If you are questioning the safety/efficacy of the vaccine, please look for science-based data for your answers, not just the opinions of others on social media! Everyone has the right to make their own personal decision, but remember our obligation to one another’s health and safety! Please strongly consider getting the vaccine when you can.

Session has called for the Annual Meeting of the Congregation on Sunday, February 14th at 10:15 AM as we will worship and work together while live streaming on Facebook. Again, you don’t have to be a member of Facebook to join us for worship (see link below). On that morning, we will present the Annual Report, elect elders and deacons, present the 2021 budget, and share plans for the coming year. We will also amend our By-Laws to allow for electronic meetings and voting. Look for more information and the Annual Report in the near future.

Please join us LIVE on Sunday Mornings at 10:00 am for singing, and 10:15 am for worship. Use this link www.facebook.com/brigchurch.org.

If you haven’t joined us for “virtual worship”, give me a call - you need to join us! The CHURCH WEBSITE is www.brigchurch.org. My email is jrscotland@aol.com. My cell phone is (609) 457-2999.
